William E. Cumbie, P.E.
William E. Cumbie is president and CEO of Keraderm, Corp. Mr. Cumbie was founder of Keraderm and inventor of its novel light-based treatment for infections. He has received four U.S. and international patents on this technology and along with Doug Juanarena has more than a dozen applications pending on refinements of the technology. Mr. Cumbie was also co-Principal Investigator for a grant from the National Institute of Health that researched Keraderm’s technology. The results of the grant were published in the prestigious peer reviewed British Journal of Dermatology and demonstrated the efficacy of the technology to effectively treat nail infections. In addition to pursuing enhanced intellectual property protection, he also has oversight of ongoing clinical trials and regulatory interaction with the FDA.
Bill holds a BS in Civil Engineering from Old Dominion University and a Masters in Engineering from Virginia Tech. He is a registered professional engineer with more than twenty years of experience at CH2M Hill, a large multinational infrastructure engineering firm. He has held numerous positions of authority within CH2M throughout the world. A proven and recognized innovator, Bill has engineered and managed more than a dozen multi-million dollar state-of-the-art projects covering a wide range of technical specialties, leading a number of projects requiring ‘out-of-the-box’ solutions. The Keraderm treatment solution, conceived and developed by Mr. Cumbie, is yet another prime example of his ability to address difficult problems with innovative solutions.
Doug Juanarena
Doug Juanarena is a serial entrepreneur with more than 25 years of experience as a founder and CEO of successful technology businesses.
Doug began his professional career as an electrical engineer for NASA, where he was a member of a team that developed the electronic pressure scanner for aerodynamic sensing. In 1978 Doug licensed patents on the technology his team created at NASA and founded Pressure Systems, Inc., which is a leading worldwide supplier of sensors and instruments for aerodynamic and environmental measurement. He was also co-founder and CEO of Luna Technologies, a fiber-optics instrumentation company and co founder and Chairman of Keraderm Corp., a medical device company. Doug was also Vice Chairman and head of business development at Luna Innovations prior to the company’s IPO in 2006.
Today, Doug heads GenTek Ventures, a firm that assists technology firms with business development and raising private equity.
Mr. Juanarena has served as a member of the board of directors of public and private technology companies, including Nematron Inc., Luna Innovations, and Weston Aerospace. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Bob Savage
Bob Savage brings to Keraderm over 25 years experience as senior financial and operations executive of a number of startup and high growth technology companies in industries as diverse as aerospace instrumentation to integration software to e-commerce. In these roles, Bob has led numerous equity financings, acquisitions, divestitures, and private placements from conceptualization through closing, and is well versed in infrastructure design and build-out in early stage companies.
Bob holds a Bachelor of Science from Randolph-Macon College and an MBA from the College of William and Mary.
